In his quarter-final Sam beat George Fairbairn 4-1 4-0. Similar to qualifying Sam had to play some good defence, but was too consistent for George in the end.
Sam's semi-final v James Bell was all going to plan at 4-1 2-0 and 40-0, then a strange forehand slice shot selection let James back in the game and he reeled off 3 in a row to go up in the second set. Sam recovered his composure (just!) and won the next 3 games in turn to finish a 4-1 5-3 winner.
The final saw Sam take the first set comfortably against his 'old' Cullercoats and Northumberland rival Paul. The second set started closer before Sam took a 3-1 lead and served at 40-15. However, some nervous play from Sam and great battling from Paul, saw Paul save 3 match points and take the game. After the change of ends Sam upped his game and helped by a couple of doubles from Paul, Sam put the match to bed to win 4-0 4-2.
Sam's first U10 title. Well done Sam! Proud mum and dad.
