Excellent performances from Sam yesterday in 3 of his 4 matches, resulted in just missing out on a semi final spot.
Match 1 saw Sam win 4-1 v George Fairbairn. Sam started confidently going 40-0 up on serve before a few doubles and errors saw him lose the game. Sam then reeled off 4 games in a row to seal the win.
Match 2 pitted Sam against the no2 seed, Green 1 and eventual winner, Oscar Fletcher. In a hard fought battle it went to 3-3 before Sam lost his serve to go a break down. However, Sam played some fantastic shots to break back and take the match to a tie break. At this point the experience of Oscar's extra year playing green ball told as he played a steady breaker to win 7-0 as Sam went for his shots a bit too much. 5-4 to Oscar.
Match 3 was an easy 4-1 win for Sam against Sam Miller, with some canny play exploiting Sam Miller's restricted movement.
Match 4 was Sam's only disappointing performance as he played buddy William Davies. Sam won 5-3, but both boys played poorly.
These results should have been enough to see Sam through to the semis as the best placed runner up in the 3 groups, but Sam Miller had to withdraw due to an injury meaning his matches were expunged and Sam missed out on percentage.
Whilst all this was happening Aimee helped Nanna, Gramps & Mummy climb a hill.
