Half Term U10s Qualifying @ VA Wearside

One solid win and one battling win for Sam today, as he qualified for tomorrow's main draw.

First up was Jack Bell. Sam lost his cool to start with as the 1st set went to Jack 0-4. As usual Sam dug in and played some good tennis (especially forehands) to win the 2nd 4-1. Then it came down to a match tie-break. Sam went up early and never looked back winning 10-7 to win a close match that he needed to battle hard when not at his best.

Half an egg mayo sandwich later and Sam was back on court to play George Fairbairn for the second time in 4 days. This time Sam didn't lose a game as he ran away with both sets 4-0 4-0. The match was closer than the scoreline suggests and Sam had to play some excellent defensive shots to stay in some points. Overall, despite a very low first serve percentage, Sam was too consistent and hit too many forehand winners for George to live with.

The draw is later, but judging from his tweet below Sam was happy with how today went!

UPDATE: The draw is out for tomorrow - George again!
